The Best Detergents for Sensitive Skin in 2026

If you have sensitive skin, choosing the right detergent is not just a preference — it is essential. Harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and optical brighteners can trigger irritation, rashes, and even eczema flare-ups.

We tested 20 hypoallergenic and fragrance-free detergents across multiple fabric types and stain levels to find what actually works without irritating skin.

What to look for in a sensitive-skin detergent:

First, fragrance-free is better than unscented. Unscented products may still contain masking fragrances. Look for labels that explicitly say fragrance-free.

Second, avoid optical brighteners. These chemicals make clothes look whiter but sit on fabric fibers and can cause skin reactions. They are also bad for the environment.

Third, enzyme-based formulas are your friend. Enzymes break down stains naturally and reduce the need for harsher surfactants. They are gentle on skin and effective on stains.

At Laundry House, we exclusively use dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free, enzyme-based detergents. Every load is washed with the same care we would use for our own family. If you are using our Wash & Fold or Pickup & Delivery service, you can trust that your clothes come back clean and skin-safe.
