Folding Clothes Like a Pro: The KonMari Method vs. Traditional

Folding clothes might seem trivial, but the way you fold determines how organized your drawers stay — and how long your clothes last.

The KonMari method, popularized by Marie Kondo, emphasizes folding clothes into compact rectangles that stand upright in drawers. This lets you see every item at once without digging through piles.

Traditional folding — laying clothes flat and stacking them — is faster but creates a mess within days. The item on the bottom gets wrinkled, forgotten, and often never worn.

We tested both methods over a month with the same set of clothes. The KonMari method won on organization but took about 30% longer per item. Traditional folding was faster but required re-folding after a week.

Our recommendation: use KonMari for t-shirts, socks, and underwear. Use traditional folding for bulky items like sweaters and jeans that do not stand upright well anyway.

Of course, if you use our Wash & Fold service, we fold everything to KonMari standards. Your drawers will thank you.
